That led to them not only implementing VR support but also working towards building a “really remarkable, built from the ground up VR experience,” Kick adds. Development of System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition was revealed back in 2019 and over time the studio learnt it could integrate VR: “During the process of reverse-engineering the missing libraries for System Shock 2, we had an opportunity to play around with the idea of creating a standalone VR version,” said CEO Stephen Kick.
